Garland
Goat Soap of Maine is a small, family business located in the heart of
the beautiful, rural farming community of Garland, Maine. My
soap-making venture began years ago when a friend shared a bar of
handmade goat milk soap with us. Aaah! That soap was so soothing and
healing and our dry, cracked hands, often exposed to the harsh elements
of farming, became soft and smooth. I wanted to discover how to make
such great soap! With books and friendly advice and help from another
soapmaker, I was soon learning the art and chemistry of soapmaking.
As time progressed, and I mastered the basics of soapmaking, my goal of
learning to make soap broadened into the goal of producing my own
special formula for a pure, natural, gentle soap including the milk
from my own herd of goats. Several years, extensive research, and many
batches of soap later, I
reached that goal with a perfect combination of luscious oils and my
goats’ pure milk to produce creamy, long-lasting, mild and cleansing
soap. I passed some of this soap out as gifts to friends, and many
commented in appreciation… “so
mild and gentle”… “doesn’t
dry my skin
out after I use it”… “that
soap lathers up great”…“it’s
so
gentle and
cleansing on my baby; I even use it to wash her hair”…“it lasts so
long.” My family and I also found this soap to be so much
better than
harsh, drying commercial soap (have you ever read the ingredients,
a.k.a. chemicals, in commercial soap…even many so-called natural
soaps?). We wanted to share this great treasure with others! Thus began
Garland Goat Soap of Maine.
After creating many square bars of soap, I began to tire of the
similarity of the bars, square, square, square. After all, you can get
a square bar of soap any day! I soon found a source of beautiful,
detailed molds, and that was the end of my squareness problem! Garland
Goat Soap is now a delight
to the eye as well as a delight to the skin!
Two Sisters' Dairy Goats, our herd of registered
Alpine does, produce all the wonderful milk that goes into our soap.
Aside from providing us with milk, our goats are wonderful pets, each
with a personality all her own! We love to care for them using natural
and conscientious methods. Without them, there would be no Garland Goat
Soap of Maine!
