I began my soap making journey years ago when a friend gave me a bar of handmade goat milk soap. Aaah! That soap was so soothing and healing, and soon my perpetually dry, cracked hands became soft and smooth. I wanted to discover how to make such great soap! With books and friendly advice and help from another soapmaker, I was soon learning the art and chemistry of soapmaking. As time progressed, and I mastered the basics of soap making, my goal of learning to make soap broadened into the goal of producing my own special formula for a pure, natural, gentle soap including the milk from my own herd of goats. Several years, extensive research, and many batches of soap later, I reached that goal by creating the perfect combination of my goats’ pure milk and luscious oils to produce creamy, long-lasting, mild and cleansing soap. I passed some of this soap out as gifts to friends, and many commented in appreciation… “so mild and gentle”… “doesn’t dry my skin out after I use it”… “that soap lathers up great”…“it’s so gentle and cleansing on my baby; I even use it to wash her hair”… “it lasts so long.” My own family and I also found this soap to be so much better than harsh, drying commercial soap (have you ever read the ingredients, a.k.a. chemicals, in commercial soap…even many so-called natural soaps?). We wanted to share this great treasure with others! Thus began Garland Goat Soap.

     After creating many square bars of soap, I began to tire of the similarity of the bars, square, square, square. I soon found a source of beautiful, detailed molds, and that was the end of my squareness problem! Garland Goat Milk Soap is now beautiful to the eye as well as lovely for the skin!     

         Rehoboth Farm, our small family farm and home to Garland Goat Soap, is nestled in the pretty hills of northwestern Connecticut. It is home of Two Sisters’ Dairy Goats, our small herd of registered dairy goats, and also home to large vegetable and flower gardens, two dogs, chickens, and a cat. We are, however, in the process of relocating to our new land in Maine. We are looking forward to re-establishing and enlarging our farm after we finish building home and barns on our beautiful sloping fields. Our goats, I’m sure, will love the new expansive, lush pastures…and all that great, creamy milk they produce will go into Garland Goat Soap!
